Wilderness Outfitters, originally founded by renowed outfitter Smoke Elser, has been hunting area 280 on the nouthern edge of the Bob Marshall wilderness nearly forty years.Our camp is located in the Lolo National Forest, approximately 7 miles via horse and pack string from the trail head.The rifle season in this area opens September 15th Our primary game is elk, although we also hunt mule deer and white tail. For a change of pace, there is good fishing for rainbow and cutthroat trout in one of the several lakes near our alpine camp.
Wilderness Outfitters offers a traditional wilderness or back country hunt. This is a fair chase hunt for a limited number of hunting clients.  Our camp is comfortable, the food the best we can provide, and the hunting experience one that is unforgettable.  It is a hunting experience in the true sense. We're out on the trail before daylight so that we can observe the game in their feeding areas.  Our guides work hard to show you game each day.  Such a hunt is an experience of a lifetime!  It provides memories and experiences that will be treasured for years.
YEAR 2010 HUNTING TRIP SCHEDULE We offer only 5 hunts a year - limited to six (6) hunters in camp at any one time.  We do not handle drop camps. Hunt # 1     September 15 - 22    Open Hunt # 2     September 25 - October 2     Open Hunt # 3     October 5 - 12          Open   Hunt # 4     October 15 - 22     Open Hunt # 5     November 8 - 15       Open Let us work with you to plan a private hunt in late October or November. We can custom design hunts up until late November. Our hunting camp is also available for watchable wildlife or non-consumptive hunts. CAMP FACILITIES include a clean, dry and comfortable camp with wall tents, warming stoves, cots, chairs and lanterns.  All meals are served family style.  Our horses are gentle and mountain wise.  They are kept in top working condition by daily rations of grain and hay as our stock are kept in a corral and always easily accessible for use.  Each hunter is fitted to a saddle, complete with rifle scabbard and saddle bags, and assigned to a horse that will fit his needs for the entire hunt.
RATES Cost of a hunt is based on one guide for every two hunters and is $3,400.00 per hunter ($1,000.00 of this is a non-refundable deposit which may be transferred to another person or arrangements may be made to credit it to a later trip the following year).
HUNTING LICENSE Deadline for applying for hunting licenses is March 15th. A guaranteed market based license is available for non-resident hunters booked with an outfitter. Montana Dept. of Fish, Wildlife and Parks
